Activity Steps

Description

Venous ulcers have been related to increased pain, decreased walking mobility, prolonged sitting, and reduced standing. In turn, these symptoms are associated with altered balance, fear of falling, and an increased risk of falls. Falls are the leading cause of injury-related morbidity and mortality among older adults. In this quality improvement project, the authors identified a significant correlation between total falls and a fear of falling and ABC Scale scores among patients who received outpatient wound care. The authors recommend further research to identify fall prevention strategies for patients seeking outpatient wound.
