Description
The certificate for this activity is for NON-PHYSICIANS.This article discusses the recent surge in the use of fentanyl-laced heroin and the treatment options available to patients who overdose on this drug. Many addicts are replacing prescription opiates with heroin, due to that drug's lower cost. This leads to an increase in emergency department visits by addicts who have overdosed on heroin, particularly when the drug has been mixed with fentanyl. The main treatment option for addicts who have overdosed is naloxone; the article provides guidance as to the amounts and of naloxone to be distributed. Upon regaining consciousness, some patients will want to leave the emergency department. The article discusses how to deal with these patients.
