Description
The article discusses the Protocolized Care for Early Septic Shock (ProCESS) trial. The ProCESS trial addressed whether all the elements introduced in 2001 after the early goal-directed therapy (EGDT) study were still necessary for the identification and treatment of sepsis in the ED. Those elements, especially the invasive monitoring techniques, are time-consuming and associated with complications in the ED. The goal of the ProCESS trial was to evaluate protocol-driven interventions versus standard care. This randomized study was held at 31 academic EDs in the U.S. Method of Participation in the Learning Process/Evaluation Method Successful completion of this activity includes reading the entire article and successfully completing the post-quiz and an evaluation form.
